“Wishes”

Jane tried to open her eyes, but she couldn't see anything. All was blurry. She could hear feint noises of people arguing, but couldn't understand them. Darkness.

John felt pain all over his body, though there was nothing wrong with him. He knew Jane was the real one in pain, and felt guilty for her injuries. He brushed her cheeks softly, wishing that they'd smile back at him in love for once. He recalled the night before, when he and Jane embraced, when they looked in eachother's eyes and simply smiled. He hadn't wanted to leave, but he thought it was the only way to keep Jane from getting hurt. He thoght. The second he stepped into that plane, Jane got hurt. He felt her panic, and knew something was wrong when he started to leave. Against the pilot's pleas to stay on the plane he opened the door and jumped out, fortunately close enough to the ground and ran to Jane's side. But it was too late. Jane was out, and he only prayed that she wasn't gone. After he got rid of Jean and his cohorts, he took Jane away to the only place he knew was safe enough to turn to: Kathleen.
John was started from his thoughts when he heard footsteps in the hall of his aunt's house, but it was only the doctor, holding an ice pack in his hand. He was alone now, and felt better about that. It gave him time to think. And that gave him time to think about what he was going to do next. After he found out that Jane was alright, he would take her with him, where they could both be safe. His home. He looked back down at his sweetheart, his true friend, and put his head down next to Jane's passing into a disturbed sleep.

Jane frowned, running with all her strength to the rooftop where John was. She knew he was up there, in trouble, but she had no idea how much.
She threw the roof door open, frantic to find John. With udder terror, she saw Richard Clayton attacking John. John would try to avoid Richard, but he knew he had to fight.
"Stop!" she yelled at the two of them.
"Jane!" John said, running up to her. He caressed her cheek, just enough to anger Richard into taking him and John over the roof.
"John!" Jane scremed frantically, but when she got to the edge of the roof, all she could see was John falling... falling...

Jane awoke with a start, cold sweat beaded along her body. She looked over to her right and saw John staring at her with a look of astonishment and happiness.
"Jane!" he said. "You're alright!"
he embraced her warmly, stroking her hair gently.
That was enough to wake Jane to reality. She looked around her surroundings and decided that she must be in Kathleen's house. It was 2 in the morning, so everyone must have been asleep.
She looked back at John, who was looking at her with the most love she'd ever seen in him. She smiled warmly, just rembering what had happened the night before.
"Thanks," she said. "For saving me back there, and for staying with me."
She patted his arm, once again reminded by the strong feelings she had for this guy. John shook himself out of his trance and took Jane's hand tightly in his. "I have to keep you safe," he said.
Jane did not fully understand, until she saw where he was going. He opened the window and came back to take Jane out with him. "Come," he said.
"I can't," Jane replied.
John gave her a look of plea, but it wouldn't change Jane's mind. She knew what was right. She had to stay.

Just then, down the hall, Jean and the other detectives on his team busted through Kathlen's front door.
