Why WB's 'Tarzan' is swinging
into oblivion

As the fall TV body count rises, so does our ire. One cancellation
I wasn't prepared to explain was The WB's "Tarzan."
A number of e-mails and phone calls wailed over the impending
disappearance of Travis Fimmel. The ratings were low, but
then again, the numbers for The WB's other programs aren't
that great, and almost all of them have either been picked
up for the season or granted additional scripts. What gives?
Well, from what I could see, the series was fairly limited
in where it could develop. That, and its consistent bloodletting
after "Charmed," one of the network's most successful
series. Lose millions of viewers out of a lead-in like that,
and it's back to the caves. So, "Tarzan" fans, take
note -- once sweeps ends, it's bedtime for the hunky monkey
boy. View

The WB Halts Production on 'Tarzan'

CHICAGO -- The WB has told the producers of its new fall
drama "Tarzan" to take a break
as production has been halted on the series after eight
episodes. The show will however remain on the network's
schedule for the remainder of November sweeps as three installments
have yet to air. WB executives will then decide
the show's fate after seeing the numbers for those episodes.
Through its five airings this season, "Tarzan"
has averaged a disappointing 1.7 rating/4 share in adults
18-49 and 3.9 million viewers overall. Meanwhile in other
WB news, production still has yet to begin on the network's
midseason drama "Fearless." The series was originally
targeted for a fall start however casting and other issues
pushed the drama to midseason. WB executives nevertheless
are hopeful that they can get the show on the air by the
spring. As for the WB's other new series, various industry
insiders say decisions about newcomers "Steve Harvey's
Big Time," "Run of the House," "Like
Family" and "All About the Andersons" are
expected to be made next week. View

WB Cancels Freshman Drama Tarzan
John Consoli
The WB, which just yesterday gave freshman drama One Tree
Hill a full-season order, is cancelling another freshman drama,
Tarzan, reports John Consoli. The network has ordered production
to be stopped on the series and is expected to air the remaining
three episodes that have been shot during the remainder of
the November sweeps. WB executives have not yet decided what
will air in Tarzan's Sunday 9 p.m. time period in December.
The network has reality shows High School Reunion and Surreal
Life ready for mid-season, and one could be called up for
duty on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. beginning in January. Tarzan,
through five telecasts, recorded a household rating of 2.6,
considerably lower than its lead-in, Charmed, which is averaging
a 3.6, according to Nielsen Media Research data. Tarzan is
also averaging only a 1.7 in both the 18-49 and 18-34 demos;
the latter of which is particularly important to the WB. Charmed
is averaging a 2.9 in 18-34, 41 percent better than Tarzan,
which is losing nearly 30 percent of the Charmed viewers.
